Worst first date locations, as shared by Reddit users

A Scientology recruitment centre

You might be wondering how someone could even convince their date to attend a Scientology recruitment centre against their will. Well, this Reddit user noted how they once witnessed attractive women on the street casually approach guys and ask them if they wanted to go see a movie. Once the guys said yes, the women brought them into a small theatre, only for them to realize the venue was actually a Scientology recruitment centre.

We know religion is an important value to some people, but this is definitely not the way to share your beliefs!

A bar where your ex works

Even talking about an ex on a first date is enough to give some people the ick, but bringing your date to your ex’s workplace? That’s a huge first-date no-no.

And just when you think things couldn’t get any worse, it turns out the ‘ex’ wasn’t an ‘ex’ at all – they were in an open relationship. We don’t condone kink-shaming here, but at least give your date the full picture beforehand.

Hooters

When brainstorming ideal first date locations, Hooters wouldn’t exactly come to mind for most people. But one Reddit user recalled how their date wanted to go there for irony’s sake. Turns out the date went pretty well, all things considered. Maybe not a bad first-date location after all – just make sure your date has a good sense of humour!

Your father-in-law’s bar

Yes, you read that right! This user’s date was married, albeit separated. The worst thing? The date’s husband worked work in the bistro area of the bar. We just hope the date and the husband didn’t have an awkward run-in (if it’s even possible to add more awkwardness to this situation).

Your ex-partner’s house party

Highlights of this location include: the smell of weed and feet, the floor covered in food containers and cans, and get this – a mattress in the middle of the lounge area with ‘every human stain on it’... *shudder*

Tyre repair shop

As far as boring first dates go, this one might take the crown. According to this user though, the date was ‘weirdly fun’– at least you’ll know you’ll love everyday married life!

Your house… when your mom is there

Not everyone would feel comfortable visiting their match’s house on the first date (safety first!). But to arrange a first date at your house when your mom is there? That takes things to stratospheric levels of awkwardness.

To do your dirty work

One user recalled how their date took them to their rental property to help stop contractor work being done. This was followed by a trip to the police station where said first date asked the user to commit forgery, by signing subpoena forms as if he was the contractor. Moral of the story? No matter how hot you are, you can’t ask your date to do your dirty work and expect it to go down well.

Put an end to terrible first dates

Of course, there’s no ‘perfect’ first date location, as everyone has different budgets, expectations, and ideas of what’s fun. But there is one thing you can do to ensure you choose a location your date will actually enjoy – get to know what they like first.
